Our gîte for 6 people, Antoine de Brabant, has been carefully designed for wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility. As recommended by the "Association des Paralysés de France", the ground floor accommodation (with the exception of the kitchen area) incorporates the following wheelchair-friendly features:
Access: Antoine de Brabant has its own parking area close to the front door of the Gîte and the surface of the car park is a thin layer of gravel on a firm bitumen base. From the parking area, a gentle slope leads directly up to the front door and a smooth concrete path. The front door can be fitted with a wedge-shaped ramp for passing over the low sill, if necessary.
Doorways: all the ground-floor doorways are at least 78cm wide.
Living areas: all the living areas on the ground floor have adequate space for manoeuvring and turning. The floors are carpeted and there are no steps or sills. (Please note that the kitchen area is not fully adapted for wheelchairs.)
Ground-floor bedroom: the furniture in the bedroom is carefully positioned so that there is a one-metre gap everywhere to allow for easy manoeuvring. The wall-mounted dressing table has no legs and there is a plug socket at tabletop height.
Bathroom: this spacious room has a low-level towel rail, a handbasin without a pedestal, a newly built shower with two small wide steps for easy access and hand rails, a seat is also available if required
Toilet: the door to the toilet opens outwards and the room measures 1.62m x 1.65m, with a clear space of 1m x 1.6m to the left-hand side of the toilet. Two handhold bars are mounted on the wall to the right-hand side of the toilet. The distance from the front of the toilet to the wall is just over 90cm and the seat of the toilet is 50cm above the floor.
Gardens and grounds: the sunny terrace in the garden has a brick surface and is accessible without having to go up any steps or pass over any soft ground.
